Roads to Homer are excellent. Drivers take the Seward Highway heading south out of Anchorage ( Alaska Highway 1) then take the turnoff to Homer 90 miles south of Anchorage (at Seward MP 37). The rest of the trip is on the Sterling Highway.

You can only get to Seward by train . . . the Kenai Peninsula can only be reached by car or plane. 🙂 It is beautiful, but so is most of the state. The train will get you to Seward and Whittier. The Kenai Peninsula extends all the way down to Homer.
There is no direct connection from Anchorage to Homer . However, you can take the drive to Whittier, take the car ferry to Homer , take the car ferry to Seldovia, AK , take the walk to Seldovia, AK , take the ferry to Homer , AK , then take the taxi to Homer .
