Alaska consolidated to two time zones – Alaska Time and Hawaii-Aleutian Time – in 1983 to put our state capitol, Juneau, on the same time zone as the more populated Anchorage and Fairbanks (and to make doing business with companies in the Lower 48 states a little easier).
four time zones
The zone includes nearly all of the U.S. state of Alaska and is one hour behind the Pacific Time Zone . The western Aleutian Islands observe Hawaii–Aleutian Time , one hour behind the remainder of the state.

The 24-hour daylight and darkness still happen in Alaska, just less so. Barrow is one of Alaska’s northernmost cities and gets complete darkness for two months out of the year. During the summer , the sun doesn’t completely set in Barrow from early May until the end of July.
The center of the Alaska ( AK ) is 1 hour behind California ( CA ). PLEASE NOTE: Alaska may span multiple time zones. We are using the America/Anchorage time zone.
The states that observe more than one time-zone are Oregon, Idaho, Nebraska , Kansas , Texas , North Dakota, South Dakota , Florida , Michigan , Indiana , Kentucky , Tennessee , and Alaska. Among these, Alaska is the only state that is not part of contiguous United States.

Alaska does not limit or tax alcoholic beverages brought into this state for personal use and not for resale. Over 75 Alaska communities have, by local option, banned the importation or possession of alcoholic beverages. It may be a felony crime to ship alcoholic beverages to those communities.
For some odd reason, Hawaii is in the Hawaii -Aleutian Time Zone . This means a small part of Alaska shares the same time zone as Hawaii . But since Alaska observes Daylight Savings, and Hawaii does not, during this time , Hawaii definitely has its own time zone .

That said, Alaska still gets fairly extreme. For example, Barrow—one of the northernmost towns in Alaska—has about two months of darkness in the winter, from about November 18 to January 22. But in the summer, the sun doesn’t completely set for about 82 days, from roughly May 11 until July 31.
