With Anchorage you get more of your stereotypical Alaska but its also a bigger city so if you need to get back onto the grid you can do so with a 30min drive. Juneau is more like a rainforest, it rains a lot and I mean a lot there. It’s a smaller city so you definitely get that small town vibe which is nice.
We do know , however, that the northern lights are best seen in Alaska between 65° N and 70° N latitude. Fairbanks is about 180 miles south of the Arctic Circle and enjoys sporadic northern lights , though it’s best to forget the more southerly destinations of Anchorage and Juneau , which see dramatically fewer displays.
It is about a 30-45 minute ride from the port of Juneau to the glacier . The glacier itself is free to visit. There is visiting center that does cost a small fee to enter if you want to go inside and talk to rangers and see some interesting exhibits and touch glacier ice.
