You can unsubscribe at any time. Ben & Jerry’s fans petitioned, and they listened. The ice cream kings have brought back much loved flavour Baked Alaska from their legendary Flavour Graveyard. It was last seen in 2015, but has now made it’s way from the resting place for dearly de-pinted flavours back to our shelves.
It goes for $30, serving up to six people. (By comparison, Delmonico’s original Baked Alaska was even more expensive : It’s cost today would be about $40.)
Etymology. The name ” baked Alaska ” was supposedly coined at Antoine’s, a restaurant in New Orleans, Louisiana, US, by its chef de cuisine Antoine Alciatore in 1867 to honor the acquisition by the United States of Alaska from the Russian Empire on March 10 that year.
Why doesn’t a Baked Alaska melt ? A Baked Alaska comprises of ice cream covered by cake and meringue. When it bakes in the oven, the meringue acts like an insulator around the ice cream , so it won’t melt , providing it sets for long enough in the freezer beforehand.

We have 2 versions of the bomba , an Italian dessert also known as tartufo. In both versions, the formula is simple – combine multiple flavors of ice cream with a fruity surprise in the middle and then dip the whole thing in chocolate. Perfectly portioned and perfectly divine.

The entire meringue-covered dessert can be stored in the freezer before baking . Next time I need a wow-worthy dessert, I’ll make the Alaska the night before and just brown it in the oven right before serving. These tasty overnight desserts can also be made in advance!
