Here, on the resort’s 60th anniversary, we take a look at some of the major differences between the two. The entire complex that comprises the two theme parks, three hotels, and the Downtown Disney District is 500 acres . Among those acres, Disneyland claims 85 and Disney California Adventure takes up another 72 .
Size. While the entire area including hotels and Downtown Disney sits on 500 acres total, Disneyland sits on only 85 acres, whereas Disney’s California Adventure is at an even 72 acres.
9. Shanghai Disneyland. While news reports giddily labeled Shanghai Disneyland the “biggest Disneyland on Earth” at 960 acres , that’s like saying Magic Kingdom is the size of San Franscisco. In other words, that calculation covers the entire, sprawling, and largely-undeveloped resort, not the theme park itself.
In the Battle of Disneyland vs. Disney’s California Adventure , especially with Galaxy’s Edge opening up this Summer, Disneyland is the clear winner for now. We’ll just have to see what Marvel Land brings for Disney’s California Adventure in the future.
Disneyland opened in 1955, while Disney World (initially just the Magic Kingdom), opened in 1971.
Disneyland Park and Disney California Adventure Park remain closed and will reopen at a later date, pending state and local government approvals.
1. Re: Is California Adventure worth the money? Yes, California Adventure Park is worth it just for Soarin Over the World, seeing Carlsland at night, and various other attractions Imo. BUT, Disneyland has 2 Parks and over 100 attractions that can easily take 2 or 3 days for a visit.
Disneyland is a lot smaller than Magic Kingdom — 85 acres as opposed to 107 acres. I especially notice the size difference when walking around Main Street and the hub area — Disneyland seems like it’s one-half to two-thirds the size.

The world’s 5 biggest and best theme parks Disneyland Park, Anaheim California. The original and, arguably, the world’s best , (if not the world’s best -known!) Disneyland Paris, Hong Kong Disneyland , Tokyo Disneyland , Shanghai Disney Resort. 3. Walt Disney World Resort, Orlando Florida. Universal Studios Hollywood, Los Angeles California. Universal Studios Japan.
That’s not to say you couldn’t spend more days there—especially if you wanted to experience rides multiple times, were visiting during a festival, or like to sleep in—but just to say you can almost fully experience it in a single day during all but the busiest times of the year.
Single-day tickets at both Disneyland Park and Disney California Adventure cost $97 for adults on value days, $110 on regular days, and $124 on peak days.
It doesn’t cost that much to add on park hoppers at Disneyland , and that’s another reason we think they’re worth it . You want to maximize your time in the parks . By purchasing park hoppers , you are able to hop to the park open later, catching World of Color at Disney California Adventure or Fantasmic!
