At a minimum if you are a single person with no one to support, $96,000/year or $8,000 a month should be the minimum salary to live necessity based comfortable. 80K in San Diego , under my standards, should be enough for rent, gas, and anything you need plus savings plus a nice restaurant dinner a couple of times a month, etc I really started having enough money for everything (like buying a house, being able to save money) when I got around that figure.
You can live just fine on 70k in San Diego as a single person. It’s more about your lifestyle and how much you expect to save per year. The main issue on that salary is the cost of housing (median home price is something like 500k). It might be difficult for you to save for a downpayment.
