The general archery season opens between the end (3rd or 4th week) of August and runs four weeks into September. Muzzleloader season , which, in my opinion, is probably the premium Colorado elk hunting season , runs in the middle of the archery season (September 8th to the 16th this year).

More than eight million acres of BLM lands in Colorado are open to hunting , but there are a few things for hunters to understand about public access to BLM lands . First, BLM land is open to hunting , but you have to have legal access to hunt it. Legal access to most BLM land isn’t a problem.
Colorado has 350 State Wildlife Areas , covering more than 684,000 acres. With a valid fishing or hunting license you can access the properties for recreation, including hunting , fishing, hiking and wildlife observation.
The State Land Board owns 2.8 million acres of land in Colorado. (That’s four percent of our state’s 66.5 million acres .) This land — called trust land — is not open to the public. The public can access trust land only when the property is leased for public recreation.
