Must never have competed in any National Finals of the Miss America Organization. Must be at least eighteen (18) years of age as of July 31st in the calendar year of the state competition in which she competes.
Miss USA , which began in 1952, has crowned a winner each and every year, along with a scholarship prize. In this case, contestants from each state do not receive any type of compensation, whereas the winner receives quite the prize!
To compete for the Miss America crown, a contestant can ‘t be married — but she can certainly be divorced.
To become a contestant, you must: Be between the ages of 17 and 25. Be a United States citizen. Meet residency requirements for competing in a certain city or state. Meet character criteria as set forth by the Miss America Organization . Be in reasonably good health to meet the job requirements.
Tattoos are to be covered up with makeup. No pierced tongues or body parts are to be visible except for pierced earrings. National Titleholder also agrees with this rule.
Miss America is a scholarship program as well as a pageant. The winner of the Miss USA pageant goes on to compete in the Miss Universe pageant. The Miss America pageant doesn’t have a swimsuit competition but it does include a talent competition.
The winner of the coveted title wins a $50,000 scholarship, but don’t worry, first, second, third, and fourth runner-up don’t walk away empty-handed. They each respectively receive $25,000,$20,000, $15,000, and $10,000 in scholarship money .
