DENVER — Buckle up, Colorado ! Farmers’ Almanac has released its “Extended Forecast for Winter 2020-2021,” calling for a chilly, and possibly snowy , winter for the Centennial State.
About 2 inches of new snow accumulated on top of the 37-inch snow pack and drifts from previous storms extending back to Christmas and city streets packed with snow, so badly that the National Guard was called in even before anyone knew about the coming blizzard.
The annual snowfall at Wolf Creek Pass (elevation 10,850 feet) in the southern mountains is averages nearly 400 inches and sometimes exceeds 600 inches while at Manassa in the San Luis Valley just east of Wolf Creek Pass annual snowfall is barely 40 inches.

“With La Nina well established and expected to persist through the upcoming 2020 winter season, we anticipate the typical, cooler, wetter North, and warmer, drier South, as the most likely outcome of winter weather that the U.S. will experience this year,” said Mike Halpert, deputy director of NOAA’s Climate Prediction
