Hawaii is actually made up of eight islands , but Niihau and Kahoolawe are both off limits to tourists without special permission and permits. Now we move onto Oahu , home of Honolulu and Waikiki Beach, and Hawaii (the Big Island ), home of five volcanoes, three of which are active.

Honolulu’s favorable tropical climate, rich natural scenery, and extensive beaches makes it a popular global destination for tourists. As of January 2020, the city receives the bulk of visitors to Hawaii, between 23,000 to 38,000 daily.
Honolulu’s population is 337,256 (2010 Census), which makes it the largest city in the state of Hawaii . But the city is not just the largest in Hawaii , but the ” largest ” city in the whole world. Honolulu Vacation Rentals.

But Hawaii’s land-based wildlife is pretty benign. There are no predators, so the most dangerous creature you could encounter on a hike through Maui’s wilderness might be a startled wild pig or a centipede —which can give a painful sting, but it won’t kill you. No one has ever been maimed by a centipede .

Yes, all of the Hawaiian islands have mosquitoes . Mosquitoes in Hawaii are most active in the morning and evening hours. The are several species of mosquitoes in Hawaii , two of which bite humans. A third species is limited to birds, and it is not going to impact your vacation.

Aside from a gorgeous coastline, Maui offers lush rainforests, farm-to-table dining and world-class golf. Overall, Maui offers more in the way of resorts, traditional beachfronts and nightlife compared to the Big Island . The landscapes are also a bit more predictable than the Big Island .
Maui costs more for the nice hotels, so if you want to save money go to Oahu . Maui is my favorite of the two because it’s more laid back, but not boring either. If you go to Oahu , make sure to venture away from Waikiki beach to get the true Hawaiian experience. Both islands have a lot to offer.
It takes about 45 minutes to drive from Waikiki to the North Shore’s famed surf town Haleiwa, more if you plan on stopping along the way. And why not get there early? It’s not like you can’t fill an entire day on the North Shore .
The island of Oahu is just the right size for taking a drive . It’s large enough that you will not run out of things to do and sights to see yet small enough that you can complete the drive in one day .
