Puzzles is the bar that Barney and Ted owned in Tailgate and Three Days of Snow. An established rule between Ted and Barney was that there would be no last calls. In Three Days of Snow, Carl trusted Ted and Barney with MacLaren’s Pub , to wait until their dates arrived.
The show wasn’t actually filmed in New York City. New York City may be a central character in the series, but according to the New York Post, they really filmed on a studio lot in Los Angeles that was designed to look like the Big Apple.
MacLaren’s isn’t real , however. It’s based on the actual bar called McGee’s that’s located on West 55th Street. They designed the entire fake place after the real place, including the padded booths and everything on the walls.
