Alaska consolidated to two time zones – Alaska Time and Hawaii-Aleutian Time – in 1983 to put our state capitol, Juneau, on the same time zone as the more populated Anchorage and Fairbanks (and to make doing business with companies in the Lower 48 states a little easier).
The zone includes nearly all of the U.S. state of Alaska and is one hour behind the Pacific Time Zone . The western Aleutian Islands observe Hawaii–Aleutian Time , one hour behind the remainder of the state.

PLEASE NOTE: Alaska may span multiple time zones. We are using the America/Anchorage time zone.
Nebraska, Kansas, Texas, North and South Dakota are divided between Central and Mountain time zones . Florida, Michigan, Indiana, Kentucky, and Tennessee are split between Eastern and Central time zones . Alaska is split between the Alaska time zone and the Hawaii-Aleutian time zone .
For some odd reason, Hawaii is in the Hawaii -Aleutian Time Zone . This means a small part of Alaska shares the same time zone as Hawaii . But since Alaska observes Daylight Savings, and Hawaii does not, during this time , Hawaii definitely has its own time zone .
That depends on where in Alaska you live. The farther north you go, the longer the day. Just north of Fairbanks, the day is 24 hours long. In Fairbanks, there are nearly 22 hours of daylight, about 19.5 hours in Anchorage and 18.2 hours in Juneau.
There is only one major road that you can take to drive to Alaska and that is the Alaska Highway. Although the original road was difficult to drive and was 1,700 miles (2,700 km) long, it has improved continually over time and today it is fully paved all the way and has been shortened to just 1,387 miles (2,232 km).
The 24-hour daylight and darkness still happen in Alaska, just less so. Barrow is one of Alaska’s northernmost cities and gets complete darkness for two months out of the year. During the summer , the sun doesn’t completely set in Barrow from early May until the end of July.
