Moana’s feminine symbols are perfect. In fact, “ moana ” is the Polynesian word for ocean, emphasizing her destiny as a voyager. The sea is the source of all life and thus a feminine power, with Moana cast as goddess in training.

Te Fiti , another island in the film, was based on Tahiti, and the tattoos on Dwayne Johnson’s character, Maui, are modeled on Marquesan tattoos. The research trips helped the crew define and then redefine the film’s look.
The character of Moana is not a real person. However, the demigod, Maui (voiced by Dwayne Johnson in the movie), has been around in Polynesian folklore for centuries. However, the creators of Moana did get their inspiration from historical facts and ancient folklore.

While the main themes of “Moana” are identity and self-discovery — familiar territory, to be sure — the film manages to enliven such well-traveled latitudes with a breeze as fresh as the islands.

The first heavily- tattooed Disney lead character comes alive in Moana . Maui, who is played by Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson is covered in Maori tattoos which is an amazing step for the tattoo community on a whole. Not in Moana , Disney used a Polynesian tattoo specialist to check all of the designs.
However, in her true form as Te Fiti, she is depicted as a giant woman with her body made out of green vegetation, which she uses to spread life in islands to make them inhabitable to creatures and people around the ocean.
Directed by Ron Clements and John Musker, this adventurous film managed to capture many’s hearts, hence the question of whether there being a Moana 2 . Regrettably, there hasn’t been any confirmation on the making of Moana 2 .
Instead, it tosses her into a brutal storm for some reason, and the next thing you know she wakes up on Demigod Island to hear a song called “You’re Welcome,” which is essentially about the powers of demigods (specifically Maui). She is a demigod at this point.
