Hawaiian religion encompasses the indigenous religious beliefs and practices of Native Hawaiians. It is polytheistic and animistic, with a belief in many deities and spirits, including the belief that spirits are found in non-human beings and objects such as other animals, the waves, and the sky.
Religion in Hawaii is a mix of Christianity , Buddhism and native religions. This is the reason why diverse religious structures, such as shrines or catholic churches can be seen everywhere in Honolulu.
Native Hawaiians ( Hawaiian : kānaka ʻōiwi, kānaka maoli, and Hawaiʻi maoli) are the aboriginal people of the Hawaiian Islands or their descendants who trace their ancestry back to the original Polynesian settlers of Hawaiʻi. The traditional name of the Hawaiian people is Kanaka Maoli.
All Hawaiians , whether chief or common people, worshipped four major gods: Kū, Kane, Lono, and Kanaloa (Malo 1951).
Hawai’i is also the only American state to have two official languages, Hawaiian and English . However, a 3rd unofficial language is also widely spoken, Pidgin which is a slang combining words from many aspects of island life and culture.
Haole (/ˈhaʊliː/; Hawaiian [ˈhɔule]) is a Hawaiian term for individuals who are not Native Hawaiian or Polynesian. In Hawaii , it may mean any foreigner or anything else introduced to the Hawaiian islands of foreign origin, though it is most commonly applied to people of European ancestry.
Hawaiian culture is based around age-old legends and superstitions, ranging from traditional gods and goddesses like Maui (a demi-god who pulled up the island from the sea bed), Pele (a wicked and deceptive volcano goddess) and her sister Poliahu (a snow god).

In the 2016 Disney computer-animated musical film Moana, the demigod Maui is voiced by Dwayne Johnson . Abandoned by his human parents as a baby, the gods took pity on him and made him a demigod and gave him a magic fish hook that gives him the ability to shapeshift.
Māui ( Maui ) is the great culture hero and trickster in Polynesian mythology . Very rarely was Māui actually worshipped, being less of a deity and more of a folk hero. He was respected throughout most cultures of the Pacific and still is famous to this day.
In Hawaiian mythology, Kū or Kūkaʻilimoku is one of the four great gods. The other three are Kanaloa, Kāne, and Lono.
