Hawaiian religion is polytheistic, with many deities, most prominently Kāne , Kū , Lono and Kanaloa . Other notable deities include Laka, Kihawahine, Haumea, Papahānaumoku, and, most famously, Pele. In addition, each family is considered to have one or more guardian spirits known as ʻaumakua that protected family.

The word wahine came into English in the late 18th century from Maori, the language of a Polynesian people native to New Zealand; it was originally used for a Maori woman , especially a wife. The word is also used for a woman in Hawaiian and Tahitian, though spelled “vahine” in the latter.
The idea that Hawaiians always have long hair could possibly have come from the fact that during the times of old, there was a specific “kapu”, or law, set for hula dancers. Feeding from this belief of power from a person’s hair , one could not just dust aside or disregard a hair that had been taken from their head.
Respect the Kupuna: Hawaiian people have great respect for their kupuna (elders), and you should make an effort to do so as well. Let older people go in front of you and hold doors open for them. If you’ore sitting down, and an elderly person shows up, consider offering him/her your seat.
