NYC is made up of 5 boroughs (Manhattan, Brooklyn, Queens, Staten Island and the Bronx). New York State is the 27th largest state but the 4th in population (mostly in NYC ). Most of the state is referred to as ‘upstate’ to distinguish from the city . Upstate and it’s people are totally different from NYC .
It’s like a smaller city within our massive metropolis. NYC has five of them— the Bronx , Brooklyn , Manhattan , Queens and Staten Island —each with dozens of neighborhoods lending their own local flavor.

The Dutch first settled along the Hudson River in 1624; two years later they established the colony of New Amsterdam on Manhattan Island. In 1664, the English took control of the area and renamed it New York.

Bronx crime is unfortunately high at the moment (although its City Island is a pretty safe outlier), and the borough is even facing a minor epidemic of hypodermic needles scattered on the grounds of its parks.
The bronx is part of thee american experience people move in and people move out. Atleast in other boroughs the ghetto does not make up the majority. The non- ghetto neighborhoods also don’t look the same as the ghetto ones (unlike the Bronx where even Riverdale looks like Fordham). The Bronx is tough.
