Alaska consolidated to two time zones – Alaska Time and Hawaii-Aleutian Time – in 1983 to put our state capitol, Juneau, on the same time zone as the more populated Anchorage and Fairbanks (and to make doing business with companies in the Lower 48 states a little easier).
The zone includes nearly all of the U.S. state of Alaska and is one hour behind the Pacific Time Zone . The western Aleutian Islands observe Hawaii–Aleutian Time , one hour behind the remainder of the state.

Does Alaska Have Daylight Saving Time ? Alaska follows the same Daylight Saving Time ( DST ) schedule as the rest of the United States. Clocks spring forward 1 hour on the second Sunday in March and fall back again on the first Sunday in November.
The states that observe more than one time-zone are Oregon, Idaho, Nebraska , Kansas , Texas , North Dakota, South Dakota , Florida , Michigan , Indiana , Kentucky , Tennessee , and Alaska. Among these, Alaska is the only state that is not part of contiguous United States.
The 24-hour daylight and darkness still happen in Alaska, just less so. Barrow is one of Alaska’s northernmost cities and gets complete darkness for two months out of the year. During the summer , the sun doesn’t completely set in Barrow from early May until the end of July.
Alaska does not limit or tax alcoholic beverages brought into this state for personal use and not for resale. Over 75 Alaska communities have, by local option, banned the importation or possession of alcoholic beverages. It may be a felony crime to ship alcoholic beverages to those communities.
For some odd reason, Hawaii is in the Hawaii -Aleutian Time Zone . This means a small part of Alaska shares the same time zone as Hawaii . But since Alaska observes Daylight Savings, and Hawaii does not, during this time , Hawaii definitely has its own time zone .
