Think… shorts, tees and blouses, sundresses, bikinis, cover up, flip flops, hat, sunglasses, beach bag, rash guard/sun shirt. In my experience, you’ll want more casual “knock around” clothes and fewer dress up clothes. I like to pack several breezy sundresses that can be worn as beach coverups or out to dinner.

Hilo is more affordable and has more local character. Hilo definitely feels less touristy than Kona , which is a good thing. Hilo has some great rainforests and waterfalls in the area, so it’s a good place for hiking and other outdoor activities. The Hilo side gets a lot more rain than Kona , so consider that as well.
The Big Island is the third most visited in Hawaii and offers accommodation for all budgets. It tends to be cheaper than Maui and it has two very different sides: Kona (west side) and Hilo (east side). In Kona there are many resorts and hotels with prices usually a bit higher than in Hilo.
From West to East of the Big Island You’ll likely want to split your stay between Kailua-Kona on the west side and Hilo (or Volcano) on the east side during your trip. This will alleviate a lot of extra driving and allow you to experience both sides of the island.
The best time to visit Hawaii’s Big Island is between September and November. That’s when the island’s generally reasonable room rates take the most significant plunge.

What should you wear on a flight to Hawaii ?! Wear your long clothes onto the plane instead of packing them. Packable down jacket that you can make small once in Hawaii . Wear close-toed shoes, or hiking sandals with a pair of long wool socks (because you’ll be hiking in Hawaii for sure ;))
For ladies , that means casual skirts, dresses and slacks as well as capri pants and nice (dressier) shorts along with a casual blouse. A light sweater is useful to bring — especially if you are visiting Hawaii in winter months.
