Hawaii , which had a large military population after the war, was expected to lean Republican and thus balance out the senate seats being added. So, shortly after Alaska was awarded statehood , so was Hawaii , which became the 50th state on August 21, 1959.
Hawaii—a U.S. territory since 1898 —became the 50th state in August, 1959, following a referendum in Hawaii in which more than 93% of the voters approved the proposition that the territory should be admitted as a state. There were many Hawaiian petitions for statehood during the first half of the 20th century.
The purchase of Alaska in 1867 marked the end of Russian efforts to expand trade and settlements to the Pacific coast of North America , and became an important step in the United States rise as a great power in the Asia-Pacific region.
Queen Liliuokalani attempted to restore royal powers in 1893 but was placed under house arrest by businessmen with help from the US military. Against the Queen’s wishes, the Republic of Hawaii was formed for a short time. This government agreed on behalf of Hawaii to join the US in 1898 as the Territory of Hawaii.
The United States was formed as a result of the American Revolution when the thirteen American colonies revolted against the rule of Great Britain. These thirteen colonies became the first 13 states as each ratified the Constitution. The first state to ratify the Constitution was Delaware on December 7, 1787.
In 1898, a wave of nationalism was caused by the Spanish- American War. Because of these nationalistic views, President William McKinley annexed Hawaii from the United States . It took 60 years from the time Hawaii became a United States territory until it was declared a state on August 21st, 1959.

ALASKA was a Russian colony from 1744 until the USA bought it in 1867 for $7,200,000. It was made a state in 1959. Hawaii was a kingdom until 1893 and became a republic in 1894. It then ceded itself to the USA in 1898 and became a state in 1959.
Delaware
Seceding from a state and forming a new one requires the approval of the both the original state and the U.S. Congress. The State of Jefferson would be our 52nd state , the 51st being the now-aborning North Colorado.
