Here are the major resort areas listed in order of most sunshine. Poipu and Waimea on the South is by far your best bet for dry sunny days, as it averages around 35 inches of rain per year. Kapaa and Lihue on the eastern side of Kauai would be your second best choice with an average rainfall of 48 inches per year.
Weather & Climate Kauai has a remarkably stable weather pattern year-round. During the winter you’ll experience highs in the mid-70s °F ( 23-24°C ), while summer temperatures usually get into the mid-80s °F ( 28-30°C ).
One thing is certain, Kauai has the perfect beach for every type of beachgoer. Kauai Beaches are known for their beauty and drama. Miles of white sand meet with crashing surf for dramatic effect; while other more protected areas offer calm, clear seas for swimming , snorkeling, and SCUBA diving, and surfing.
The sheer beauty of Kauai cannot be beaten though. 3 days for your first visit would suffice, but I would recommend doing 2 islands instead of 3 in that short time period. If you only go for 3 days , you will more than likely want to return soon.for a longer period of time.
Kauai is Hawaii’s fourth largest island and is sometimes called the ” Garden Island ,” which is an entirely accurate description. The oldest and northernmost island in the Hawaiian chain is draped in emerald valleys, sharp mountain spires and jagged cliffs aged by time and the elements.
North Shore (Hanalei, Princeville ) The North Shore is the most beautiful part of the island and one of the best places to stay in Kauai. We loved the mountain scenery, string of beautiful beaches, and cool town of Hanalei.
However, it’s true that generally speaking Kauai is a bit cheaper . In terms of accommodation, there isn’t a huge difference between both islands but when it comes to shopping and eating Maui can be slightly more expensive as it’s more touristy.
The size and type of shark is unknown, according to Kauai County. Before that, a shark encounter was recorded by DLNR in February at Poipu Beach. Several encounters have been reported on other islands throughout past months as well.
For your time on Kauai’s north shore, I would recommend staying in Princeville. Princeville is well-located in terms of beaches and tourist conveniences, and it’s also got a front-row seat to some of Kauai’s most gorgeous scenery (more on that later).
Many first-time visitors stop in Kauai for four days while island hopping between two or three islands. Four days is enough time to see the best of the island (except for several days – long hikes like the Na Pali Coast).
Are there dangerous critters on Kauai ? There are no snakes in Hawaii. We do however have the mosquito that can be annoying, so use repellent when needed. We do have centipedes, but they are rarely seen.
