The Alenuihaha Channel lies between the Big Island of Hawaii and Maui. Its maximum depth is 6,810 feet (2,076 m) and it spans 29.6 miles (47.6 km). In the Hawaiian language, alenuihaha means “great billows smashing. The Alalakeiki Channel lies between Kahoolawe and Maui, a 6.7-mile (10.8 km) stretch.

Molokini is a small crescent-shaped island is situated about three miles from Maui’s southwest coast. Molokini is said to have some of the clearest water in all of Hawaii with visibility depths of up to 200 feet.
Hawaii has a lot more great sightseeing, hiking and attractions than the Bahamas . Hawaii also has lots of great beaches, although you aren’t as likely to find the crystal clear water the way you do on many of the Bahamian islands. The main thing Bahamas has going for it are its beaches
The pycnocline (the layer of density change) is usually very deep and pronounced in Hawaii and the Bahamas due to a very warm surface layer, thereby trapping nutrients in deeper waters that do not receive enough light for phytoplankton to grow.
Certain ocean conditions can make Hawaii’s beaches hazardous for swimming — namely high surf, dangerous shorebreaks and strong currents. These conditions vary depending on season and location, but some spots are consistently hazardous. No matter which beach you choose, ALWAYS obey posted ocean safety signs.
In addition to mosquitoes, Hawaii also has the smaller and the ubiquitous no – see -um biting gnats. As with mosquitoes, they are more prevalent in rainy areas and also wherever there’s less concrete.

ALASKA was a Russian colony from 1744 until the USA bought it in 1867 for $7,200,000. It was made a state in 1959. Hawaii was a kingdom until 1893 and became a republic in 1894. It then ceded itself to the USA in 1898 and became a state in 1959.

The max water depth between Maui , Molokai, Lanai and Kaho’olawe is about 400 feet, so it it not the big drop-off that you will find elsewhere in Hawaii.
