In 1793 Captain George Vancouver sailed from the United Kingdom and presented the Union Flag to Kamehameha, who was still in the process of uniting the islands into a single state; the Union Jack flew unofficially as the flag of Hawaii until 1816, including during a brief spell of British rule after Kamehameha ceded
It symbolizes the Kingdom of Hawaii , the republic of Hawaii , its status as a territory and its present status as an official U.S. state. Sometimes, you’ll see the flag hanging upside down , which symbolizes a “nation in distress” and a sign of protest to the American government.
The flag’s red stripes are said to symbolize Hawaii gods, while the white represents truth, and the blue signifies the ocean. The Hawaiian flag originally represented the Kingdom of Hawaii . After the overthrow of the monarchy the flag came to represent the Republic and then the Territory of Hawaii .

ALASKA was a Russian colony from 1744 until the USA bought it in 1867 for $7,200,000. It was made a state in 1959. Hawaii was a kingdom until 1893 and became a republic in 1894. It then ceded itself to the USA in 1898 and became a state in 1959.
The United States wanted Hawaii to acquire its islands and because it was a port way to China, East India and Asia. Not only did they want the islands, but they wanted their naval base. They wanted their naval base for war so they would have another advantage to help defeat the other country.
The flag should never be used as wearing apparel, bedding or drapery. It should never be displayed upside down unless trying to convey a sign of distress or great danger. The flag should never touch anything beneath it; this includes water, merchandise and even the floor.
The Flag Code states it is the universal custom to display the flag only from sunrise to sunset on buildings and on stationary flag staffs in the open. However, when a patriotic effect is desired, the flag may be displayed 24 hours a day if properly illuminated during the hours of darkness.

The flag’s color scheme is red, yellow and green, meant to represent different groups within Hawaiian society. The yellow is symbolic of the alii, the powerful royal class. Red represents the konohiki, the landed caste that served the alii. Green signifies the makaainana, or commoners.
The legal status of Hawaii—as opposed to its political status—is a settled legal matter as it pertains to United States law, but there has been scholarly and legal debate. The argument is that Hawaii is an independent nation under military occupation.
The origin of the flag of Great Britain dates back to 1606 when James VI united England and Scotland. The flag is referred to as Union Jack or Union Flag interchangeably as an indication of the unity of these three older nations.
