You can see aurora borealis any time of year in Glacier National Park , of course. But in the spring, the nights are a bit longer and darker, and so it is prime time to catch an incredible light show! The foot of Lake McDonald, near Apgar, is a great spot to watch for northern lights in the spring.

For serious day hiking Glacier is one of the best parks in the world. Banff is far more touristy than Glacier which is more remote, however as noted the major trails can be more crowded at Glacier as the Canadian parks are larger and more spread out.

Anyway, Glacier has the edge for hiking spectacular alpine scenery; Yellowstone , in addition to the unique thermal features has some really nice scenery of its own, and is probably the single best place to view wildlife in North America. You decide. If you can only see one park , see Yellowstone .

May through September is the busiest time of the year in Glacier National Park . Within that, July and August are the busiest of all. Weekends can be busier than weekdays but not always and not by much. The parking lots at popular destinations, like Logan Pass and Avalanche, begin filling around 8:00AM.
Moose, Elk, Black Bears and Grizzly Bears, not to mention Bighorn Sheep, Mountain Goats and Mule Deer, all call Glacier Park their home. There are no poisonous snakes in Glacier Park , so you don’t have to worry about where you step.
