All five boroughs came into existence with the creation of modern New York City in 1898, when New York County, Kings County, part of Queens County, and Richmond County were consolidated within one municipal government under a new City Charter.
Hudson Waterfront Jersey City and Hoboken in Hudson County are sometimes referred to as the sixth borough, given their proximity and connections by PATH trains. Fort Lee, in Bergen County, opposite Upper Manhattan and connected by the George Washington Bridge, has also been called the sixth borough.

It is bounded roughly by Frederick Douglass Boulevard, St. Nicholas Avenue, and Morningside Park on the west; the Harlem River and 155th Street on the north; Fifth Avenue on the east; and Central Park North on the south.

Statistically the safest borough to live in crime -wise, Staten Island still has a lot of kills, the Dutch word for creek. There’s Fresh Kills, Arthur Kill, the Kill Van Cull, and my favorite, Great Kills.
The name ” Bronx ” originated with Swedish-born Jonas Bronck, who established the first settlement in the area as part of the New Netherland colony in 1639. The native Lenape were displaced after 1643 by European settlers.
The bronx is part of thee american experience people move in and people move out. Atleast in other boroughs the ghetto does not make up the majority. The non- ghetto neighborhoods also don’t look the same as the ghetto ones (unlike the Bronx where even Riverdale looks like Fordham). The Bronx is tough.
Bronx crime is unfortunately high at the moment (although its City Island is a pretty safe outlier), and the borough is even facing a minor epidemic of hypodermic needles scattered on the grounds of its parks.
Billionaires ‘ Row, a set of eight ultra-luxury skyscrapers along the southern end of Manhattan’s Central Park, has seen some of New York City’s richest home sales ever. It includes Central Park South, New York City’s most expensive street in 2019, where the median sale price is currently US$9.8 million.
New York City’s most suburban borough, Staten Island , is also its richest, with a median household income of $70,295, while the suburban counties surrounding New York are all richer than any of the boroughs.
The Bronx
South Jamaica is a working class neighborhood in Queens that’s pretty famously known as being called one of the most ghetto places in New York . Merely 1 in 3 people graduated from high school here, and the number of reports of dangerous elements here is reported pretty much daily.

But don’t worry you’ll find some. Therefore, Harlem is still dangerous . Also, Harlem had about an 80% increase in murders in 2019, compared to the year before. Making it one of the most dangerous neighborhoods in the city based on crime/murders.
