But don’t worry you’ll find some. Therefore, Harlem is still dangerous . Also, Harlem had about an 80% increase in murders in 2019, compared to the year before. Making it one of the most dangerous neighborhoods in the city based on crime/murders.
So what’s a “borough” anyway? It’s like a smaller city within our massive metropolis. NYC has five of them— the Bronx , Brooklyn , Manhattan, Queens and Staten Island —each with dozens of neighborhoods lending their own local flavor.
The close-in parts of Long Island – Brooklyn and Queens – are a part of New York City. Because Long Island is huge. NYC is made up of 5 boroughs (Manhattan, Brooklyn, Queens, Staten Island and the Bronx). New York State is the 27th largest state but the 4th in population (mostly in NYC ). Most of the state is referred to as ‘upstate’ to distinguish from the city . Upstate and it’s people are totally different from NYC .
Upstate New York does however have several Democratic-dominated counties, including Erie County ( Buffalo ), Monroe County (Rochester), Onondaga County (Syracuse), Tompkins County (Ithaca), and Albany County ( Albany ).
It is bounded roughly by Frederick Douglass Boulevard, St. Nicholas Avenue, and Morningside Park on the west; the Harlem River and 155th Street on the north; Fifth Avenue on the east; and Central Park North on the south.

Statistically the safest borough to live in crime -wise, Staten Island still has a lot of kills, the Dutch word for creek. There’s Fresh Kills, Arthur Kill, the Kill Van Cull, and my favorite, Great Kills.
