Though the term ” hamlet ” is not defined under New York law, many people in the state use the term hamlet to refer to a community within a town that is not incorporated as a village but is identified by a name, i.e. an unincorporated community. Nevertheless, all land not within a village is administered by the town.
A hamlet is a small human settlement. In different jurisdictions and geographies, a hamlet may be the size of a town, village or parish, or may be considered to be a smaller settlement or subdivision or satellite entity to a larger settlement.
In New York State, the village is a general purpose municipal corporation formed voluntarily by the residents of an area in one or more towns to provide themselves with municipal services.
– A town is a human settlement larger than a village but smaller than a city. The definition of hamlet varies by country. It usually refers to a small settlement, with a small population which is usually under 100, in a rural area, or a component of a larger settlement or municipality.
The Constitution of 1894, as amended in Article 12, section 2, divided cities into three classes by population: First Class — 250,000 or over; Second Class — 50,000 to 250,000; and Third Class — under 50,000.
New York is the name of one of the states of the union. It includes the Cityof Greater New York , which consists of five Boroughs: Manhattan, the Bronx, Brooklyn, Queens, and Staten Island. (Each Borough is also a County of New York State .)
Hamlet or Band – a hamlet has a tiny population (less than 100), with only a few buildings. A social band are the simplest level of foraging societies with generally a maximum size of 30 to 50 people; consisting of a small kin group, no larger than an extended family or clan.
Sherwood Park
Because of the small size of the settlement, there are usually no buildings which have a central or admninistratrive function. There usually is no church , town hall or pub. Roads and streets in the hamlet do not have names, most of the time.

town : an urban area that has a name, defined boundaries, and local government, and that is larger than a village and generally smaller than a city . city : a large town . metropolis: the capital or chief city of a country or region, or: a very large and densely populated industrial and commercial city .
A town is usually a place with a lot of houses, but not a city. As with cities, there is more than one way to say what a town is in different countries. In some places, it is a kind of local government. Generally, the difference between towns and villages or hamlets is the sort of economy they have.
