There are 62 counties in New York . Five of those counties are coterminous with the five boroughs of New York City and do not have functioning county governments. These counties are instead subject to the jurisdiction of the city. New York City is considered the county seat for each of these counties .

Queens is a borough of New York City, coextensive with Queens County, in the U.S. state of New York . It is the largest borough of New York City in area and is adjacent to the borough of Brooklyn at the western end of Long Island, with Nassau County to the east.
But don’t worry you’ll find some. Therefore, Harlem is still dangerous . Also, Harlem had about an 80% increase in murders in 2019, compared to the year before. Making it one of the most dangerous neighborhoods in the city based on crime/murders.
The worst neighborhoods and districts in Unsafe Areas in New York are: Long wood. A neighborhood in the Bronx , with population of 33,198 people. Fort Greene. A Brooklyn neighborhood of 23,886 people. Brooklyn Heights, Boerum Hill & Dumbo.
NYC is made up of 5 boroughs (Manhattan, Brooklyn, Queens, Staten Island and the Bronx). New York State is the 27th largest state but the 4th in population (mostly in NYC ). Most of the state is referred to as ‘upstate’ to distinguish from the city . Upstate and it’s people are totally different from NYC .
Upstate New York does however have several Democratic-dominated counties, including Erie County ( Buffalo ), Monroe County (Rochester), Onondaga County (Syracuse), Tompkins County (Ithaca), and Albany County ( Albany ).

While there is poverty, gangs, crime and some parts of Queens that some may consider as dangerous, the borough is not viewed as bad or even as urban as boroughs like Bronx and Brooklyn, but there are two main sections of Queens that are still deep within the urban neighborhoods of New York City.
It also has the largest population out of all five boroughs, which may not be ideal if you prefer to live in a slightly quieter community. If you prefer a sub-urban community vibe Queens may be a better fit, as it’s the largest borough from a geographical standpoint, but has a slightly smaller population than Brooklyn .
