The mayor of New York City is the chief executive of the Government of New York City, as stipulated by New York City’s charter. The current officeholder, the 109th in the sequence of regular mayors, is Bill de Blasio, a member of the Democratic Party.

Rudy Giuliani (full name “Rudolph William Louis Giuliani”) served as the 107th Mayor of New York City from January 1, 1994 until December 31, 2001.
According to current law, the mayor is limited to two consecutive four-year terms in office but may run again after a four-year break. It was changed from two to three terms on October 23, 2008, when the New York City Council voted 29–22 in favor of passing the term limit extension into law.
Edward Irving Koch (/kɒtʃ/ KOTCH; December 12, 1924 – February 1, 2013) was an American politician, lawyer, political commentator, film critic, and television personality. He served in the United States House of Representatives from 1969 to 1977 and was mayor of New York City from 1978 to 1989.
The 2021 New York City mayoral election will consist of a primary on June 22, 2021, followed by a general election on November 2, 2021. Incumbent Mayor Bill de Blasio is unable to run for a third term due to term limits.
