Things To Do In January Make sure to catch sunrise or sunset from Canyon Overlook Trail or Watchman Overlook Trail. Winter in Zion is wonderful for sightseeing, especially since you are able to drive through the canyon in your own car. Another great activity in January is hiking.

The first snowfall of winter for Salt Lake City usually arrives in November, although about one in four Octobers also get some snow . The season’s last snowfall typically happens in April. Very rarely a few snowflakes also land in May. Salt Lake City is normally free of snow every year from June to September.
The Rocky Mountains to the east and north usually block powerful polar highs from affecting the state during the winter. Temperatures rarely fall below 0°F (-18°C), but frequently stay below freezing.

Once you near Saint George the whole climate changes, and it rarely snows. It can get really hot down there though. The whole area is called Utah’s Dixie and is one of the fastest growing places in the country. Kanab is a bit cooler than Saint George with relatively little snow still.
The state is known for its high quality of life, low crime and beautiful landscape. Utah is more affordable than neighboring state Colorado but offers similar climate and access to stunning mountains.
